Alex Nichols received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Michigan State University in 2003, with a concentration in painting. During the following two years, he became involved in photography, particularly the then-maturing area of digital photography and related technology. He has been employed by the Department of Art and Art History at Michigan State University since 2004, first as the Digital Imaging Specialist in the Visual Resources Library, and now as the Academic Technology Coordinator for the department.

He continues to be involved in all aspects of art-specific technology in the department, with a central interest in the Visual Resources area. Alex is very active in the Visual Resources Association, regulary presenting at conferences, and writing a column in the organization's bi-monthly newsletter. He is presently finishing his Master of Science degree in Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois.
